Miami Valley Fire/EMS Alliance Announces
Recipients of Its 2010 Customer Service Awards
At its regular Board of Directors meeting on January 19, 2011, the Alliance presents its annual Customer Service Award for "Outstanding Individual" to Lieutenant Tim Shafer of Miamisburg Fire Department.
Lieutenant Shafer has demonstrated a strong commitment to training and development for the region's Firefighters. Serving as the Chair of the Alliance's Training Committee, he has taken the lead to develop and implement the Alliance's Mayday Training Trailer. He led the training of instructors so that the Mayday Trailer could be used at local fire stations, thus training over 200 firefighters to date.
Lieutenant Shafer coordinated a thermal imaging training class co-sponsored by the Greater Montgomery County Fire Chiefs Association and the Alliance. Tim is currently working with the Alliance to bring on-going training as well as specialized training for Incident Commanders to the region. Because of his dedication and leadership, many firefighters have undergone life-saving training.
The Alliance also presents its Customer Service Award for "Outstanding Organization" to the Miami Valley Fire/EMS Alliance Communications Committee. This Committee led and coordinated the re-banding and the development and implementation of a standardized Radio Communications Template for regional dispatch centers, fire apparatus, and firefighters.
The new Communications Template has become especially important to the region during mutual aid responses. A cooperative effort such as this enhances safety to the responder and public, and saves lives and taxpayer money.
Working together for years the committee members represented fire, law enforcement, engineering, hospitals, EMS, county EMA, radio repair both for the county and from local vendors. Organizations that will receive special recognition for a job well done include: Montgomery County Communications and Repair; Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management; Montgomery County Police Chiefs Association; P&R Communications Services, Inc.; RCC Consultants, Inc.; Regional Dispatch Center; and the Miami Valley Fire/EMS Alliance Communication Committee.
